Research Assistant in the global methane budget at the University of Bristol

Salary: £32,000 - £36,000 per annum

We are seeking applicants for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant (PDRA) position in the University of Bristol’s Atmospheric Chemistry Research Group and School of Geographical Sciences. The PDRA will join the NERC-funded UK-wide consortium project ‘Closing the Global Methane Budget’, aimed at diagnosing the changes in sources and sinks that are responsible for the recent and unexplained rapid growth in atmospheric methane. This project will utilise new state-of-the-art measurements of methane in the atmosphere and will develop modelling techniques and statistical methods to understand the drivers of observed variations.

The PDRA’s role will include:

  • Global and regional atmospheric modelling
  • Inverse modelling and development of Bayesian methods
  • Presentation at international conferences and project meetings
  • Writing and contributing to publications

Candidates should hold a postgraduate degree (PhD highly desirable) in physical / environmental sciences or applied mathematics, have experience with high-performance computing, have strong writing skills, and a good ability to work and communicate in a team environment. The position is available as soon as possible for an initial period of 2 years, with possibility for extension.
